Contest Review - We were greeted with offshore winds and head high surf. The competitors opted for a 10AM start time, due to the morning high tide. Once competition got underway, the surfers really lit up the conditions on offer to them, with many high scoring rides and some very good surfing going down. Advancing to the finals were Keto Burns, Mikee Fitts, Chris Ropero, and Matt Wetmore. The low tide was near it's maximum as the 30-minute final hit the water, which gave the surfers plenty of opportunity for performance surfing. In 4th place was Mikee, who had an amazing semi-final, but may have peaked too early. Matt was 3rd, surfing well but never getting the longer waves that would have given him higher scores. Chris Ropero finished 2nd, utilizing his smooth frontside surfing on the rights for his highest rides in the final. The top position belonged to Keto, who landed 4 air-reverses during the final, which must be some kind of record. Keto took it all in stride, accepted the 1st place prize of a new board, and stayed on the beach helping us tear down the contest site. Thanks to all the volunteers and competitors who made this event a lot of fun and a joy to be a part of.
